Hull International House to close after over 60 years of service

At a recent meeting, the Trustees of Hull International House made the difficult decision to close the House and begin the process of disposing of the property. This decision follows an extensive period of exploring sustainable future options for the House, that could continue to contribute to the Methodist Church’s mission. However, recent changes in legislation surrounding supported housing and Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), combined with the need for significant immediate and ongoing capital investment, have rendered continued operation economically unviable.

The House is expected to close by the end of October 2025.

For more than 60 years, Hull International House has provided a welcoming and supportive home—initially to international students and, over time, to a broader community of residents. For many, it has been a valued place of belonging, connection, and for some a longer-term residence. Its legacy is one of hospitality, community, and service—one in which all who have been involved can take deep pride.

The Trustees are committed to offering support to current residents and staff as they move on from the House over the coming months.
